There are five palaces in Seoul, South Korea. The palace of the Joseon Dynasty is mixed with high-rise buildings, creating a mysterious and beautiful appearance. Here are five palaces you must visit if you travel to Seoul.



1. Gyeongbokgung Palace

Admission Fees : 3,000won
(Admission is free if you wear Hanbok)
Open hours : Mon~Sun 9:00AM - 5:00PM(Closed on Tuesdays)
Duration : 2-3 hours

It was designated as a private property in 1963. It was also called Bukgwol (闕) because it was located in the north of the capital city. It was established according to the establishment of the Joseon Dynasty.

2. Changdeokgung Palace

Admission Fees : 3,000won
(Admission is free if you wear Hanbok)
Open hours : Mon~Sun 9:00AM - 5:00PM(Closed on Tuesdays)
Duration : 1-2 hours

This 600-year-old UNESCO World Heritage Site is the city's jewel. It's as famous for its outstanding architectural details as for its verdant and expansive gardens.

3. Changgyeonggung Palace

Open hours : Mon~Sun 9:00AM - 5:00PM(Closed on Tuesdays)
Duration : 1-2 hours

It is the palace of Joseon in Waryong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. During the Japanese colonial period, when zoos and botanical gardens were built here, it was downgraded to Changgyeongwon (昌慶苑), and the restoration of Changgyeonggung Palace began in the 1980s and has continued to this day.

4. Deoksugung Palace

Duration : 1-2 hours

Deoksugung Palace was first used as a temporary residence for the ancestors after the Imjin War, and was called Jeongneung-dong Haenggung Palace, and was renamed Gyeongungung Palace during the reign of Gwanghaegun. Later, in 1907, King Gojong, who abdicated to King Sunjong, stayed here, and changed it back to Deoksugung Palace in the sense of wishing King Gojong a long life.

5. Kyeongheegung Palace

Duration : 1 hours

This palace was founded in 1617 (the 9th year of King Gwanghaegun's reign), and at that time, King Gwanghaegun was reluctant to call Changdeokgung Palace (凶宮), so he built Ingyeonggung Palace under Inwangsan Mountain to build a new 慶宮 on the road. However, after hearing from the monk that the royal flag stood in the old house of Jeongwon-gun (Jeong 遠君), he built a palace on the spot and called it Gyeongdeokgung Palace.
